Jewelry is an investment. Get the most out of your investment by taking proper care of your jewelry. With proper care, sterling silver and gold can last a lifetime. Here are some jewelry facts & care tips.
Sterling silver can tarnish
Yes it’s true! All sterling silver can tarnish. Tarnish isn’t a defect, or an indicator that your piece is of low quality. Tarnish is a natural occurrence in sterling silver and is really easy to fix. We recommend using a silver polishing cloth. Wiping your ring or bracelet with a silver polishing cloth now and then will remove any tarnish and keep your item looking new.
Why is my skin green or black from my jewelry?
Okay, we’ve all seen it. You remove your ring or bracelet and you have what looks like green or black ink on your skin. Too many times people think this is an indicator of poor quality jewelry. It’s not! In fact this one doesn’t even have to do much with the jewelry—it’s actually a chemical reaction with the metal in the ring and the wearer’s skin. People with a higher PH level in their skin experience this more often. Also it’s more common in summer months when we perspire more. It even happens when certain people eat certain foods! But again, this is easy to fix. You just need to wipe the jewelry with a silver polishing cloth, keep wearing the item, and within a few days—the green or black discoloration stops and you’re good to go!
Household cleaners & swimming pools: Bad for silver
Yes it’s true! Your jewelry can tarnish more quickly from being exposed to household chemicals and cleaners. Chlorine bleach absolutely destroys silver so always take off your jewelry when swimming or cleaning.
